Newsletter 18.3.16

Here is the newsletter for Friday 18th: 18th March

A number of parents have been asking when we will be having an Ofsted inspection, as it has been more than 2 years since our last inspection in February 2014. We are still waiting for the inspectors to call! We will get half a day’s notice, and inform all the parents as soon as we know.

In the meantime, we are all very focused on ensuring the best possible provision for all the children, and developing St Mary’s even further. Since our Teaching and Learning Review in January, the level of presentation has shown a marked improvement in many of the children’s books, which is fantastic. We are working on creative projects for the summer term, and setting new targets for the pupils to help them achieve the highest possible outcomes at the end of the year. After Easter, we will be holding a parents’ meeting to discuss how assessments have changed this year and what this means for your child.

Science Week - Year 6

Year 6 have been testing Newton’s Theory of Colour and building their own periscopes!

Science Week - F2 (Reception)

F2 have been learning about making Falafel. Rania’s Grandmother visited the class and showed the children the process. The children then had a go for themselves!

Science Week - Year 5

Year 5 learnt about fingerprints, and how each one is unique. They helped each other to take imprints of their fingerprints, and compared them with each other.

Science Week - Nursery (F1)

In F1, children have been trying out all sorts of different Scientific ideas, based around their topic of Minibeasts:

Science Week Year 4

This week is Science Week, and some of the teachers have been swapping classes to share their ideas for great experiments! Mr Pendlebury taught Y4 Science this week, and they made Lava Lamps from water bottles:

Mothering Sunday

On Sunday, children from our school choir sang at St Mary’s Church for a special Mothering Sunday service. They sang a combination of ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ and the modern song ‘Mighty to Save’. Their singing was beautiful and everyone was very impressed!

Book Day

We had an incredible collection of costumes today as children and staff celebrated World Book Day. In Years 1-6 children dressed up as a word for our Vocabulary Parade; children in EYs dressed up as book characters.
