Year 5 take over Lord’s Cricket Ground!

On Friday, Year 5 took over Lord’s Cricket Ground and acted as tour guides for the day. They showed around Year 3 and some of our parents, explaining the history of the Ground and pointing out some of the key features. They really enjoyed this responsibility, and stepped up well to the challenge! Well done, Year 5.

Y6 in The City

Last week, Year 6 went to visit City firm, Tindall Riley, to find out about careers in business. It is part of the City of London’s ‘City Careers Open House’ scheme for schools. They found out about many aspects of the jobs people do in the firm, met some of the office workers and practised their business skills (eg pitching and presenting). It is part of a project we are doing this year at St Mary’s to consider future aspirations. Next week, we are off to Oxford University!

Here are the children in the offices (where their behaviour was highly praised):

Tea (and a farewell)

Today we had tea in Year 2’s classroom, which was different but lovely.

Ms Dillon also joined us as it is her last week at St Mary’s before she moves on to another job.

We talked a bit about our assembly which was on Anti-bullying this week.

Admissions Consultation for 2017-18

The Governing Body of St Mary’s School would like to consult you on proposed changes to St Mary’s admissions criteria for Reception from September 2017.

The changes would split applications into two categories: Foundation (church) and Open (other), giving both Christian families and families of other faiths, or none, to be included in our school. This is a key part of our school ethos and the recommended model of the London Diocesan Board for Schools.

Within both categories, siblings would be prioritised so that families are kept together – again a key aspect of our ethos as a family-oriented school.

Within the church category, priority would be given to families who worship at St Mary’s church, in recognition of the growing links between the church and the school and how families from the church consider this to be their local community. Families from other churches would be considered next, in order of distance from the school.

Within the Open category, after siblings, families would be considered purely on their distance from the school. It is important to the Governors that St Mary’s remains a school which serves its local community.

The suggested distribution would be 60% Foundation (church) places and 40% Open (non-church) places.

Here are a letter from our Chair of Governors, the draft Admissions Policy and the draft Supplementary Form: Admissions consultation letter 2015 Draft Admissions policy 2017 SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION FORM FOR ADMISSION 2017

You can also find details on the Westminster City Council website: https://www.westminster.gov.uk/consultation-admission-arrangements-2017-18

The consultation period runs from Monday 16th November 2015 until Friday January 15th 2016 and the Governors warmly welcome any comments from our parents, stakeholders and members of our local community. Please submit your comments in writing to Ms Breeda Cahill at the school or by email: [email protected].

Term Dates for 2016-17

Here are the term dates for 2016-17, which have been agreed by the School Governors: Term Dates 2016-17

Please note, we have tailored these dates specially so that families have plenty of time to return from their summer holidays in time for the start of term. We will also be finishing early in July 2017 so that you can get away on holiday as early as possible.

Please make a note of the dates in your diaries. Thank you

Tea with Miss Norman 9.11.15

This week at tea, we talked about how decisions are made in school, who our School Governors are, and how learning at St Mary’s is so much fun, some children would like an even longer school day! We also had bagels for the first time, which were a big hit.
