On Friday, our Year 6 class put on the fantastic show ‘Shakespeare Rocks’, telling the story of the life of William Shakespeare and some of the backgroud to his plays. We laughed, we cried, and then we laughed a lot more! They performed it extremely well and we were all very proud of them. Mr Riordan continued the afternoon by giving a speech, saying how important it was that whatever happens in life, they care for one another. Jon Ward (Chair of Governors) then presented every child with a book, a special certificate made for each individual pupil, and awarded the school cups to children as voted for by their classmates.
Well done, Year 6. We will all miss you very much.
Yesterday, St Mary’s was transformed into an Art Gallery! Every class worked on an Art project, linked to the theme of Water, during ‘Arts Week’ and then displayed their work for parents and visitors to see. There were also filmed Musical performances, which were played during the exhibition, and the choir sang a selection of songs from different films.
Thank you to everyone who came along and supported the children, and to the staff for all their hard work in putting the show together.
On Friday, a group of Year 5 pupils went to the Barbican Centre to perform a piece they have been working on with London Music Masters.
They sang and performed fantastically well, often having their own part to sing amongst a combined choir of four different schools. The singers were accompanied by violinists from other London Music Masters schools; we are looking forward to some of our pupils starting violin lessons next year.
This morning, we held our Easter service in church. Rev Ben Jones talked to us about how surprised the disciples would have been on the very first Easter.
The choir sang a version of ‘When I Survey the Wondrous Cross’ (with a modern twist!):
The children in Year 6 led our prayers:
Dear God,
At this holy time of Easter, we thank you for your powerful love, which means that you will always forgive us when we are sorry for the wrong things that we have done.
Help us to have the grace to forgive those who upset us or make us angry.
We pray for all the people who have been affected by the bombings in Belgium this week. We pray for everyone who has lost someone they care about because of terrorism. Please give them the strength they need at this difficult time.
Please fill the hearts of terrorists with love instead of hate and peace instead of anger. We pray that all around the world, nations will unite in peace and harmony.
We pray for you to help those who have been hurt by war. We pray especially for the people in Syria, Yemen and Iraq. We ask you to bring them peace very soon.
Please give strength to people who have been affected by illness. We pray for their families and those who care for them.
Please help us to look after your beautiful world and all the things in it. Help us to look after each other and especially those in need. We pray for people who are refugees. Help them to find a safe place to stay and to be welcomed.
Thank you for our school and all the people who are part of making it such a special place. Help us to work as hard as we can to do our best. Thank you for making it a safe and happy place for us to learn.
Please keep us all safe over the holidays. Thank you for this chance to spend time with our families.
On Sunday, children from our school choir sang at St Mary’s Church for a special Mothering Sunday service. They sang a combination of ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ and the modern song ‘Mighty to Save’. Their singing was beautiful and everyone was very impressed!
